VREDENDAL, Western Cape – eNCA’s weather department has confirmed information reported by the South African Weather service that a maximum of 48.4°C was recorded in Vredendal on Tuesday 27 October 2015.

The town lies in the northern Olifants River Valley, and borders on the southern tip of Namaqualand, the northern part of the Boland and forms part of the West Coast.

Tuesday’s temps saw the year-round tourist destination break the all-time record high for October, worldwide.

The record was previously set at Campo Gallo, Argentina on 16 October 1936 with a high of 47.3°C.
